Mr. Woon, a graduate of the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), has been practising law since 1997. After swiftly rising to the position of partner at Messrs. S.K. Song, he established Woon Wee Yuen & Partners in 2000. Over the past two decades, he has played an instrumental role in the firm’s growth, developing a diverse practice that serves property developers, financial institutions, and individual clients.

Mr. Woon is highly regarded for his expertise in civil and commercial litigation, banking (both conventional and Islamic), and conveyancing law. He is also a trusted advisor in Islamic law, particularly in Syariah banking and finance. He frequently participates in symposiums and seminars on Islamic financing and has considerable experience working with the MACC and the IGP.

 

He has cultivated a strong reputation within the Chinese business community, regularly acting as legal advisor to associations such as the Quandong Chinese Association. His work with Chinese clients includes:

 

  • Regularly advising the Quandong Chinese Association and similar organisations, making him a highly sought-after legal counsel within the Chinese business community.

  • Over the past 10 years, he has been involved in housing development for Chinese investors, managing the entire process from land acquisition to obtaining housing development licences, planning permissions, and project completion.

  • Well-versed in all processes involving land transactions, including conversion, amalgamation, subdivision, change of conditions of use, and managing land with restrictions (Malay Reserved and Bumiputera lots), with specialised experience in the southern part of Malaysia.

  • A strong network and working relationship with authorities in southern Malaysia, well-versed in regulatory compliance and related processes.

  • Familiar with poultry licences, having assisted one of the largest poultry business owners with licence applications, property acquisition in Seremban and Johor, and labour hiring. His legal guidance helped the business navigate compliance with turnover and other requirements, supporting its successful listing in Singapore.

  • Specialised expertise in navigating complex cross-border land transactions involving over 500 acres of estate land between foreign entities and securing necessary regulatory approvals.
